Sikandra is a historical and archaeological site located in Agra, India. It is known for the tomb of Akbar the Great, the third Mughal emperor of India. The tomb is located in a large walled garden and is one of the most impressive Mughal architectural masterpieces.
The tomb is a fusion of Hindu, Islamic, and Persian architectural styles, with intricate carvings and beautiful marble work. The main entrance of the tomb is adorned with four minarets, and the central chamber of the tomb houses the cenotaph of Akbar the Great.
Apart from the tomb, Sikandra is also home to other notable structures like the Buland Darwaza and the Mariam's Tomb. The Buland Darwaza is a grand gateway built by Akbar in 1601 to commemorate his victory over Gujarat. The Mariam's Tomb is the resting place of Mariam-uz-Zamani, the wife of Akbar and the mother of Jahangir.
Sikandra is located about 10 kilometers from the city center of Agra and can be easily reached by taxi or auto-rickshaw. The site is open to visitors from sunrise to sunset, and guided tours are available.
